What Do YOU Want Your Entrepreneurial Life to Be Like?

Imagine it’s a Sunday evening. You’ve just enjoyed an incredible weekend playing, maybe boating, and perhaps dining with family and friends. The atmosphere in your home is filled with peace and joy. You retreat to your favorite chair to plan the week ahead and easily identify three things that will really move the needle. Finished, you settle in for a quiet evening and a peaceful night’s sleep.

When you awaken Monday morning you’re fully rested and rejuvenated. As you roll out of bed, there’s a great deal of enthusiasm and anticipation about the week ahead. While making preparations for the day, it’s with a deep sense of gratitude and appreciation.

As you make your way to work in your classic GTO your mind is actively engaged in creative thinking about where next to take your business.
Classic GTO

When you arrive, you are greeted by a team who really gets your mission and understands your WHY. They’ve taken ownership of your vision and consistently bring and invest the best of themselves to make it a reality.

The processes you’ve put in place and the team you’ve built have liberated everyone to do the work that most energizes and excites them. Personal and team productivity, profitability, and fulfillment are off the charts. Your clients and customers so enjoy doing business with your team that they willingly pay your price and do it with big smiles on their faces. They even consider it a personal obligation to tell everyone they know and meet how incredible it is to do business with you.

As the entrepreneur and leader, you feel at ease taking time off to pursue other opportunities and interests, confident your business will continue growing in revenue, profit, and reputation in your absence.

The stress, anxiety, and fear that used to follow you like your shadow, constricting your breathing and inciting angry outbursts is now a distant memory.

SOUND TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE?

Many entrepreneurs think it is.

  • They’ve tried different things but found it too difficult to change.
  • They won’t stop long enough to consider other possibilities.
  • They play the victim while blaming everyone and everything.
  • They second guess themselves and question if they have what it takes.

Quite a few actually think the struggle is the price entrepreneurs have to pay for the right to call their own shots and chart their own course. And in the early years, it is a struggle because there’s a steep learning curve. You have to test your ideas, cobble together processes, figure out how to get traction, and learn how to build and lead a team.

But it should not remain a struggle.

The underlying issue is that as an organization grows, so too does the complexity of operating it. Each new addition (equipment, processes, people, etc.) adds another layer of difficulty, that for many, eventually becomes an invisible wall that restricts freedom, stalls progress and frustrates growth.

wrapped-around-the-axleTo the entrepreneur, it can feel like being wrapped around the axle, hemmed in on all sides, spinning all the plates and fighting all the fires.

AND in this condition, it’s almost impossible to get free, without guidance and help.

Thankfully, any ambitious, high-achieving, growth oriented entrepreneur has the capability to change the game they’re playing AND with some guidance and a season of courage can create the kind of life they TRULY WANT.

But is it too much to WANT a life similar to one described at the top of the page? Of course not. After all, it IS YOU who found the courage and invested the time, energy, and cash to build your business. You’ve earned the right to the rewards.

What Will It Take To Make “WHAT YOU WANT” A Reality?

The ideal described at the top of the page is achievable, but as I already mentioned, it’s going to require time and courage.

  • Mindsets and habits have to be updated.
  • New capabilities have to be developed.
  • The game being played, changed.
  • Rules that prevent flourishing, rewritten.
  • Complexities and difficulties, simplified.

AND it all starts with RECLAIMING YOUR FREEDOM.

Innovating simplicity is the key to reclaiming your entrepreneurial freedom.

Nothing significant can or will change with you constantly tangled up in the day to day activities. You need the capability to unplug (physically, mentally and emotionally) from your business. Your nervous system needs the free time to update. Without it, you lose access to your resourcefulness.

Addiction to work or work-a-holism keeps entrepreneurs exhausted, frustrated and feeling like they’re being punished instead of rewarded.

Make Magic HappenThe magic happens during the OFF time as your entire nervous system sifts and sorts through everything that has happened in the past thereby helping YOU make sense of the future.

Working less seems counterintuitive but the reality is, you’ll make more by working less.

Yes, the idea of taking OFF can be scary, but doesn’t the thought of continuing down the same path scare you even more?

It pays to remember why you get paid. Isn’t it for coming up with creative solutions to other people’s problems? Sure it is. And the solutions come much more easily when you’re rested and rejuvenated.

There are four primary areas where difficulty builds causing progress to stall.

1. The Marketplace.

Entrepreneurs cast too wide a netFar too many entrepreneurs cast a wide net and drag in everyone and everything they can. From price shoppers and negotiators to the indifferent and royal pain in the asses.

It is far more profitable and rewarding to do business with people you love and people who love you. People who understand and appreciate the value you and your team provide.

Customers and/or clients who will pay your price, according to your terms and conditions and who take it upon themselves to evangelize for you. The calculus for this strategy is simple: (PYL + PWLY) + Simplicity = 10X Freedom and Profits

Peter Drucker reminds us

“The aim of marketing is to know and understand the customer so well the product or service fits them and sells itself.” – Peter Drucker

Understanding your customer so well your products and services sell themselves? Is there another strategy more profitable, and fulfilling? We don’t know of one!

2. The Processes.

simplifyCobbled together systems and procedures can wreak havoc on the day to day operation. When growing, it’s easy to lose track of where things start and end.

The focus needs to be on the vital and easily followed by everyone, systems, and procedures.

A great place to start is by eliminating stupid rules and trivial activities. The time-wasters overflowing in most organizations. Seems simple, but Steve Jobs had it right, simplifying things is hard work.

“Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. – Steve Jobs

Clean Thinking is the hardest challenge because so many entrepreneurs process the world by how they feel or by assumption, opinion, analogy, rules of thumb, tradition, dogma, etc. The entrepreneur who can start with a clean canvas and ground truth is ready to wage war on and defeat complexity.

Of course, sometimes people oversimplify, like the tiny remote for the Apple TV that frequently gets lost in the seat covers, Steve. Remember, “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.” — Einstein

3. The Team.

Get it, want it and have capacity to make it happen

There is nothing more difficult and frustrating than running an organization with people who don’t really support your mission or have the right attitude or capabilities to deliver at high levels.

The good news is NOW it easier than ever to build a team that really gets it, wants it and can make it happen.

It starts with getting really clear about the objectives of the role. What’s the unique genius needed to excel at the position? How does someone need to take action naturally to get the desired results? What pet peeves need to be screened for? The clearer the objectives the easier it becomes to hire well.

Hiring to match objectives with a person’s natural strengths is the key to reducing or eliminating the negative friction that so frequently drains energy and dilutes individual and team performance. The goal is to hire so well that you don’t have to manage.

They Get it, Want it, and Have the Capacity to Make it Happen!

Fortunately, figuring out how to hire to meet specific objectives is much easier today than ever before. With the Kolbe RightFit™system, we’re easily able to find the “right” person for the right job at much less expense.

4. The Entrepreneur.

Many of the entrepreneurs we work with feel like the guy in the picture, and the reality is most of their problems stem from ineffective mindsets and habits.

Messy thinking and ineffective or self-destructive habits are the single greatest reason why entrepreneurs get punished instead of rewarded for their efforts.

Getting rejuvenated and updating your mental software is crucial. Learning creative ways to reclaim and expand your freedom will liberate you to do your best work, make big leaps forward, and truly enjoy your entrepreneurial journey.

“The type of person you are is usually reflected in your business. To improve your business, first, improve yourself.” -Idowu Koyenikan

Remember, the best way to predict the future is to create it. Adopt an abundance mindset. Reorganize how you think about and see yourself, your business, and your people— and before you know it you’ll be enjoying the kind of life dreams are made of.

QUESTION: Are you getting what you REALLY WANT?

If not, here’s my advice: Stop thinking you don’t have time. Being too busy is the REAL problem. Make a decision. Take Action Now!
